Taking up the slack

Matt replaced
our water filters today.
Not an easy task,
but that did not stop him. He da man!

Jono, upcoming Top Chef, has been cooking for us. He is a natural
in the kitchen.
It’s his dream
to become a chef.

Hannah;
indispensable.
I encouraged her
to take the position at UPS so she could have a break from keeping things running smoothly.

Momma,
taking on many things, now that I am home.

Our marriage is a partnership
built on love,
respect,
trust,
and devotion.
He makes me better.
I make him better.

Our home is an environment of equal opportunity.

A partnership;
I do things
and he does things.
He is in repair-mode
right now,
so I do my things
and
most of his things.

Except for the things delegated to the other men of the family.

My boys
adore their Daddy.
I would not be exaggerating
if I said
these guys are best buds. ‘The three musketeers.’

And they,
also,
are invaluable.

Yes,
some days
are so overwhelming,
and we find it hard
to breathe...

But that’s what
family does.
They step in,
help,
take over,
etc...

And we keep going.
No pause.
Just forward.

It looks different.
It’s uncomfortable.
But we are all in.

And he’s doing good.
He has his things
he is doing right now; getting better;
and that is
the most important work for him.
And we are giving him
the freedom
and room
to concentrate on that.

When we walk?
He is struggling for air.
If you don’t look close,
you won’t see.
But he is pushing himself.

We follow after him
with the wheelchair,
which also has its faults.

Sitting upright
is also a struggle.
But it’s better than standing?
A little?

And then we turn around and head back home.

Walk.
Sit.
Walk.
Sit.

Home.
In his chair.
Nap time.

But he is progressing.
It’s just that walking
is a marathon for him.
Sitting upright
is a marathon.

Sitting in his chair all day is also not an option, which is why we are holding back
visits, for now.

At this point?
Visits should be
no longer than
15 minutes.

And that’s just how it is these days.
But we are not complaining.

Moving forward and grateful he is home.

All is well...
for the most part.

XO
Shelli
